1995 Japan-China Exchange and Exhibition of Children's Paintings in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II

With the goal of promoting the aesthetic development and healthy growth of children in Japan, the Konishi International Exchange Foundation (Chairman: Jin-emon Konishi) has held painting competitions since 1992. Chairman Konishi, himself an honorary adviser to President Shao Huaze of the People’s Daily, proposed an exchange through paintings of children who will bear the next generation in Japan and China. His idea was met with approval and the Japan-China Exchange and Exhibition of Children’s Paintings was realized. At the opening ceremony in the summer of 1995, the Japanese children who visited Beijing as ambassadors of friendship were invited to the Great Hall of the People by Vice President Rong Yiren. In a conversation with Chairman Konishi at this meeting, the Vice President spoke of the immense significance of strengthening the friendship between Japan and China. By children understanding each other’s lifestyle and culture through their paintings, the ties of friendship will deepen with each successive generation, thereby promoting friendship and peace between the two nations.
